Dana Sipos – The Art of Song

June 20, 2026, 10:30 am
$20
Mary Winspear Center
All Ages, Wheelchair Accessible

Dana Sipos will lift the curtain on arranging a song … either one that you have written, or one that you particularly love.

Songwriting is a practice of leaning in and listening to the wild worlds both around us and inside us – and songwriting is an incredible tool to explore these landscapes of our lives and the worlds, braiding the threads of memory and muse, imagination, politics and place, to name a few. This workshop  will offer a welcoming space and supportive environment to nurture the creative process and explore the art of song/writing through deep listening, playful experimentation and imaginative prompts.  We might even try our hand at writing our own song if time permits – I’m very excited about the possibility of co-creating this workshop to suit the needs and interests of all participants.

Open to writers of all levels and styles, beginners are very welcome! Bring an instrument, your notebook, a song to share and a desire to explore creative connection and discovery.

The workshop has a fee of $20, payable upon arrival at the Winspear … in cash or on the Square (credit card)
If the fee is an issue for you, contact Bob de Wolff in advance at bdewolff@mac.com  We may be able to work something out.

Guitar ‘tasting’

June 20, 2026, 1:15 pm

Imagine putting some excellent guitar players in a room with some guitar makers, who give them some of their favourite instruments to try out.

We expect to guide the discussion of the relationship between performers (and their needs and wants) and instrument makers and their own preferences.

Robert Anderson, Dan Vincent and Emmet McCusker have agreed to bring of their instruments.

AND, Ella Korth, Tyler Lieb and Patrick Murray will try them out.

What could be more fun.

In collaboration with the Victoria Guitar Show (which will be in Room 2 at the Winspear) this workshop /demonstration will be free to the public.  Although, we’d like to defray costs, so donations are welcome.  (For amounts $25.00 or greater, we will need to gather your contact information so we can send out a tax receipt for income tax purposes.
